THE HIERARCHY OF HEAVEN

You may have been wondering as I have in the past . Why Is a call For” Order ” in every Sphere of Christianity ? There is a call for order In Music , Call for Order in Church Service  and Leadership. Etc . I never Understand the principle behind All this Till is searched in the spirit of prophecy for  “Heavenly order ” .  It is Eye Open To know that the first rebellion that took place in Heaven was all about “Order issues “. I can confidently say that ; the Law which was broken in heaven by Lucifer is the” Law of Order .” We will Establish this Fact for now  let us something in general sense about ” Order and Heaven “.

From eternity there was a complete unity between the Father and the Son. They were two, yet little short of being identical; two in individuality, yet one in spirit, and heart, and character.  {YI, December 16, 1897 par. 5}

Before the foundations of the earth were laid, the Father and the Son had united in a covenant to redeem man if he should be overcome by Satan. They had clasped Their hands in a solemn pledge that Christ should become the surety for the human race. This pledge Christ has fulfilled. When upon the cross He cried out, “It is finished,” He addressed the Father. The compact had been fully carried out. Now He declares: Father, it is finished. I have done Thy will, O My God. I have completed the work of redemption. If Thy justice is satisfied, “I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am.” John 19:30; 17:24.  {DA 834.2}

Zach 6:13        Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

SUPREME GOD

John 14:28       Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come [again] unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

The rebellious chieftain signalized himself as having authority to establish laws entirely contrary to the laws of Jehovah, the living and only true God, the supreme Ruler in heaven and in earth. {Lt60-1893}

God is the Father of Christ; Christ is the Son of God. To Christ has been given an exalted position. He has been made equal with the Father. All the counsels of God are opened to His Son.  {8T 268.3}

The authority of God is supreme, and He is true. Christ gives all who accept Him power to live the truth under the most trying circumstances. Those who have broken the law are sinners, but God says to them, I gave My only begotten Son to die for sinners. He bore the penalty of the sins of the world. He is sufficient for your redemption. If you will plant your feet upon the platform of obedience, if you will repent, and accept the merits of the Son of God, you may have the hope of eternal life. {Lt44-1909}

If men would accept Christ, and see the binding claims of the law of God, they would not take a neutral position, but would stand out in full confidence and say, The Lord is my Helper. He is the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent is the supreme and everlasting Good. They would secure to themselves the grand promise of God. This is an individual work. “No man liveth unto himself.” Every worker in God’s cause should strive to become more and more efficient. There must be no careless disregard of God’s expressed will. The laborer together with God must live by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Let us individually draw nigh to the mount, that we may understand what the Lord means, and then obey. {Ms160-1899}

The King of the universe summoned the heavenly hosts before Him, that in their presence He might set forth the true position of His Son and show the relation He sustained to all created beings. The Son of God shared the Father’s throne, and the glory of the eternal, self-existent One encircled both. About the throne gathered the holy angels, a vast, unnumbered throng–“ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands” (Revelation 5:11.), the most exalted angels, as ministers and subjects, rejoicing in the light that fell upon them from the presence of the Deity. Before the assembled inhabitants of heaven the King declared that none but Christ, the Only Begotten of God, could fully enter into His purposes, and to Him it was committed to execute the mighty counsels of His will. The Son of God had wrought the Father’s will in the creation of all the hosts of heaven; and to Him, as well as to God, their homage and allegiance were due. Christ was still to exercise divine power, in the creation of the earth and its inhabitants. But in all this He would not seek power or exaltation for Himself contrary to God’s plan, but would exalt the Father’s glory and execute His purposes of beneficence and love.  {PP 36.2}

I saw that there was a cherub sitting on either end of the mercy seat with their wings spread over the ark. There also stood two angels, one by either end of the ark, with their wings spread out on high and touching each other, while their other wings reached to each side of the apartment. I saw that the wings of the angels did not reach above the Father, for that would bring Him too low. I saw that the Father was in the midst above the cherubims, and His glory is shed down upon the ark, and the train of His glory fills the temple. {Ms15-1850}

Source of all things

John 5:26         For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

All things Christ received from God, but He took to give. So in the heavenly courts, in His ministry for all created beings: through the beloved Son, the Father’s life flows out to all; through the Son it returns, in praise and joyous service, a tide of love, to the great Source of all. And thus through Christ the circuit of beneficence is complete, representing the character of the great Giver, the law of life.  {DA 21.2}

The SON

1COR 3:23      And ye are Christ’s; and Christ [is] God’s.

1COR 11:3    But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God.

The Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father, is truly God in infinity, but not in personality. He has wrought out the righteousness that enables human beings to overcome every assault of Satan. He will impute His righteousness to the believing saint who walks as He walked when on earth.  {UL 367.4}

Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father

The Son of God was next in authority to the great Lawgiver. He knew that his life alone could be sufficient to ransom fallen man. He was of as much more value than man as his noble, spotless character, and exalted office as commander of all the heavenly host, were above the work of man. He was in the express image of his Father, not in features alone, but in perfection of character.  {2SP 9.1}

They told Adam and Eve that the most exalted angel, next in order to Christ, refused obedience to the law of God which he had ordained to govern heavenly beings; that this rebellion had caused war in Heaven which resulted in the rebellious being expelled therefrom, and every angel was driven out of Heaven who united with him in questioning the authority of the great Jehovah; and that this fallen foe was now an enemy to all that concerned the interest of God and his dear Son.  {1SP 33.2}

Yet the Son of God was exalted above him, as one in power and authority with the Father. He shared the Father’s counsels, while Lucifer did not thus enter into the purposes of God. “Why,” questioned this mighty angel, “should Christ have the supremacy? Why is He honored above Lucifer?”  {PP 36.3}

The exaltation of the Son of God as equal with the Father was represented as an injustice to Lucifer, who, it was claimed, was also entitled to reverence and honor. If this prince of angels could but attain to his true, exalted position, great good would accrue to the entire host of heaven; for it was his object to secure freedom for all. But now even the liberty which they had hitherto enjoyed was at an end; for an absolute Ruler had been appointed them, and to His authority all must pay homage. Such were the subtle deceptions that through the wiles of Lucifer were fast obtaining in the heavenly courts.

Sin originated with him who, next to Christ, had been most honored of God and was highest in power and glory among the inhabitants of heaven. Lucifer, “son of the morning,” was first of the covering cherubs, holy and undefiled. He stood in the presence of the great Creator, and the ceaseless beams of glory enshrouding the eternal God rested upon him. “Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering. . . . Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.” Ezekiel 28:12-15.  {PP 35.1}

ORDER IN HEAVEN

There is the throne, and around it the rainbow of promise. There are cherubim and seraphim. The commanders of the angel hosts, the sons of God, the representatives of the unfallen worlds, are assembled. The heavenly council before which Lucifer had accused God and His Son, the representatives of those sinless realms over which Satan had thought to establish his dominion,–all are there to welcome the Redeemer. They are eager to celebrate His triumph and to glorify their King.  {DA 834.1}

Order and cleanliness is the law of heaven; and in order to come into harmony with the divine arrangement, it is our duty to be neat and tasty “.— AH 254.2

You will notice it is Upon “Heavenly Order” that we are called To have order and harmony in our homes . Why is this so ?  This extends also to Schools where true education is taught. There is a call for “order and principles” that will reflect The heavenly “Government.” That mean there was a government in heaven ? And then that means there was “protocol ” of doing things in heaven? There was some order governance ? Well, read the following quotation and make sense out of it :

The Lord would have our primary schools, as well as those for older students, of that character that angels of God can walk through the room, and behold, in the order and principle of government, the order and government of heaven.  CT 170.2

If there was “Order of Governance in heavenly Government “. As we are going to proof soon , then the war  presented in Revelation  was revolutionary in sense. There was a desire too Overthrow the existing government and establish “a new Order .”

KJV Revelation 12:7

” And there was WAR IN HEAVEN  : Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels.”

The dragon, Lucifer by then and his angels brought a revolt to establish “a new order “. Which order do you think ? Well, we will get the  answer. Now read the following  when Commenting about who was tempting Christ in the wilderness;

” By the one who had revolted in heaven the kingdoms of this world were offered Christ, to buy His homage to the principles of evil; but He would not be bought; He had come to establish a kingdom of righteousness, and He would not abandon His purpose “.— DA 130.2

That is Important in our study by Note. Satan, the one Who offered to give Christ the kingdom of this world had Caused a “REVOLUTION IN HEAVEN.” Basic issue is Rebel against authority . With a desire to established some different order of things. If you have doubt that this revolt was all about “authority .” Read the following Quote .:

The mighty revolter now declared that the angels who had united with him had gone too far to return; that he was acquainted with the divine law, and knew that God would not forgive. He declared that all who should submit to the authority of Heaven would be stripped of their honor, degraded from their position. For himself, he was determined never again to acknowledge the authority of Christ. The only course remaining for him and his followers, he said, was to assert their liberty, and gain by force the rights which had not been willingly accorded them.” PP 40.3

I believe you are seeing Something. The Revolution was against ” order  Authority “. The statement even makes it Clear AUTHORITY they had problems with. – Authority of Christ. Don’t You think  here  where the really issue of the Great Controversy based ? Let’s explore this matter in depth.

The Son of God was next in authority to the great Lawgiver. He knew that his life alone could be sufficient to ransom fallen man. He was of as much more value than man as his noble, spotless character, and exalted office as commander of all the heavenly host, were above the work of man. He was in the express image of his Father, not in features alone, but in perfection of character. 2SP 9.1

‘ Lucifer might have remained in favor with God, beloved and honored by all the angelic host, exercising his noble powers to bless others and to glorify his Maker. But, says the prophet, “Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness.” Verse 17. Little by little, Lucifer came to indulge a desire for self-exaltation. “Thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God.” “Thou hast said,… I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation…. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.” Verse 6; Isaiah 14:13, 14. Instead of seeking to make God supreme in the affections and allegiance of His creatures, it was Lucifer’s endeavor to win their service and homage to himself. And coveting the honor which the infinite Father had bestowed upon His Son, this prince of angels aspired to power which it was the prerogative of Christ alone to wield.  – GC 494.1

Lucifer was seeking to place himself above the position and authority he was Given in the Order of Governance in heaven . He sought to win Service and homage of angels to himself by USURPING THE POSITION AND AUTHORITY WHICH  ‘ FATHER  HAD BESTOWED UPON HIS SON.”

So the Order of Heaven was under threat of Being overthrown .

As discord was spreading in heaven , destroying the harmony that existented throughout the time . The Son of God approached Lucifer. What Were some of Christ Argument to Lucifer? Read The following Quotation and pay attention to the highlighted Parts ;

The Son of God presented before him the greatness, the goodness, and the justice of the Creator, and the sacred, unchanging nature of His law. God Himself had established the order of heaven; and in departing from it, Lucifer would dishonor his Maker, and bring ruin upon himself. . — GC 494.2

The son of God presented the Fact that The Law of God is Unchangeable . Importantly , God himself had Established Order of Heaven .Remember Order is the Law of Heaven. So by Departing From the Established Order of Governance , Lucifer was dishonoring God . I wish To get it more clear . What Order did Lucifer Depart from ? What was he against ?

To dispute the supremacy of the Son of God, thus impeaching the wisdom and love of the Creator, had become the purpose of this prince of angels. To this object he was about to bend the energies of that master mind, which, next to Christ’s, was first among the hosts of God. But He who would have the will of all His creatures free, left none unguarded to the bewildering sophistry by which rebellion would seek to justify itself. ” PP 36.11

Remember what we had read from GC 494.. The devil Had Coveted the Authority The Infinite Father had bestowed upon His son. He we Get more light. He indeed had problem with Supremacy  of the Son of God . But Important , THIS SAME LUCIFER WE GET THAT HE WAS NEXT TO CHRIST , NOT JUST “SECOND NEXT ” for this mean there was somebody  between Christ and Lucifer BUT HE WAS THE FISRT  NEXT TO CHRIST . SO FAR WE GET SOME ORDER OF GOVERNANCE ;

God                                 Son of God.                          Lucifer .

Let’s Proof More for purposes of Clarity ;

The Lord has shown me that Satan was once an honored angel in heaven, next to Jesus Christ. His countenance was mild, expressive of happiness like the other angels. His forehead was high and broad, and showed great intelligence. His form was perfect. He had a noble, majestic bearing. And I saw that when God said to his Son, Let us make man in our image, Satan was jealous of Jesus. He wished to be consulted concerning the formation of man. He was filled with envy, jealousy and hatred. He wished to be the highest in heaven, next to God, and receive the highest honors. Until this time all heaven was in order, harmony and perfect subjection to the government of God. 1SG 17.1

Satan in Heaven, before his rebellion, was a high and exalted angel, next in honor to God’s dear Son. His countenance, like those of the other angels, was mild and expressive of happiness. …. yet Jesus, God’s dear Son, had the pre-eminence over all the angelic host. He was one with the Father before the angels were created. Satan was envious of Christ, and gradually assumed command which devolved on Christ alone. 1SP 17.1

Adam And Eve Were Told who Occupied Position Next To Christ Before Their Creation; Here is the story .;

” They( angels and Christ )  told Adam and Eve that God would not compel them to obey—that He had not removed from them power to go contrary to His will; that they were moral agents, free to obey or disobey. There was but one prohibition that God had seen fit to lay upon them as yet. If they should transgress the will of God they would surely die. They told Adam and Eve that the most exalted angel, next in order to Christ, refused obedience to the law of God which He had ordained to govern heavenly beings; that this rebellion had caused war in heaven, which resulted in the rebellious being expelled therefrom, and every angel was driven out of heaven who had united with him in questioning the authority of the great Jehovah; and that this fallen foe was now an enemy to all that concerned the interest of God and His dear Son. SR 30.1

Here We Learn More truth about Order of Heavenly Government.

Q in What More was Lucifer Next To Christ ?

A In Exaltation and IN ORDER ( Rank )

Q To whom was Lucifer Enemy when He Questioned This Order ?

A Lucifer was an Enemy To Two Beings . ; God and His Son..

” Lucifer was the most beautiful angel in the heavenly courts next to Jesus Christ, but Christ was one with God, assimilated to the image of God to do the will of God. Satan, knowing that Christ had the first place next to God, began to insinuate to the angels that he should be next to God. His great beauty and exalted position made him feel that he was not receiving due honor in being second to Christ. Therefore he would suggest this to the angels, and this suggestion [began] to be communicated to the heavenly angels, and finally [it was] brought before God that Lucifer was the one who should be next to God. Thus the seed was sown and the result was that angels sympathized with Lucifer; next, there was war in heaven. Lucifer’s beautiful appearance was constantly exalted and the Lord God of heaven [saw] that Lucifer and his party were very strong against Christ. Ms90-1910.4

The Older Of the Government before fall was ;

God                       The son Of God                                       Lucifer

Satan, the chief of the fallen angels, once had an exalted position in heaven. He was next in honor to Christ. The knowledge which he, as well as the angels who fell with him, had of the character of God, of His goodness, His mercy, wisdom, and excellent glory, made their guilt unpardonable. 4BC 1163.2

Satan is the leader of every species of rebellion today as he was the originator of rebellion in the courts of heaven. Standing next to Christ in power and honor, yet he coveted the glory that belonged to the Son. He desired to be equal with God. To carry out his purpose, he concealed his true designs from the angels and worked deceptively to secure their allegiance and honor to himself. By sly insinuations, by which he made it appear that Christ had assumed the place that belonged to himself, Lucifer sowed the seeds of doubt in the minds of many of the angels; and when he had won their support, he carried the matter before God, declaring that it was the sentiment of many of the heavenly beings that he should have the preference to Christ. Ms81-1908.15

Q . In What Else Was Lucifer Next To Christ ?

  1. Lucifer Was next to Christ In Power.
  2. Why did Lucifer Want To be next God ?

A . To be Equal With God .

  1. Lucifer What was to be established by this ?

A . Three Equals ( Connotations of tritheism )

Lucifer did all this by claim that The Son to a position that belonged to him . Now we sew ,the devil managed to deceive some Angels that The son of God took his position . Let us examine what Was done by The one who established that Order.

The King of the universe summoned the heavenly hosts before Him, that in their presence He might set forth the true position of His Son and show the relation He sustained to all created beings. The Son of God shared the Father’s throne, and the glory of the eternal, self-existent One encircled both. About the throne gathered the holy angels, a vast, unnumbered throng—“ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands” (Revelation 5:11.), the most exalted angels, as ministers and subjects, rejoicing in the light that fell upon them from the presence of the Deity. Before the assembled inhabitants of heaven the King declared that none but Christ, the Only Begotten of God, could fully enter into His purposes, and to Him it was committed to execute the mighty counsels of His will. The Son of God had wrought the Father’s will in the creation of all the hosts of heaven; and to Him, as well as to God, their homage and allegiance were due. Christ was still to exercise divine power, in the creation of the earth and its inhabitants. But in all this He would not seek power or exaltation for Himself contrary to God’s plan, but would exalt the Father’s glory and execute His purposes of beneficence and love. PP 36.2

Q . how many Shares Throne ?

  1. There were only two not three

Q . According to what God told the heavenly host , How many Were enter into The Heavenly Counsel?

  1. Only Two. God and His only Begotten Son .

Q Where was the third equal ?

  1. Absent . Nothing said about third being .Only what we know is Lucifer wanted to be part of the two to make three.Perhaps, the third in the Trinity it is Lucifer who has created in order to fulfil his plans of getting homage.
  2. According to this Meeting, How many were to be Worshipped ? And who are they ?

A . Two were to be Worshipped. The son and God. Those who shared a throne.

Let us now see the battles that were In the mind of Lucifer. That will help us see that the really issues was about the Position of Christ In order of Governance.

“. …..The high honors conferred upon Lucifer were not appreciated as God’s special gift, and therefore, called forth no gratitude to his Creator. He gloried in his brightness and exaltation and aspired to be equal with God. He was beloved and reverenced by the heavenly host, angels delighted to execute his commands, and he was clothed with wisdom and glory above them all. Yet the Son of God was exalted above him, as one in power and authority with the Father. He shared the Father’s counsels, while Lucifer did not thus enter into the purposes of God. “Why,” questioned this mighty angel, “should Christ have the supremacy? Why is He honored above Lucifer?” PP 36.3

The Council here being mentioned is the one referred as “counsels of peace ”

KJV Zechariah 6:13

13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both. ”

This counsel is constituted of only Two for ” Both ” calls for two . Lucifer wanted to be involved too in this counsel.

What was the reason why the devil’s request wasn’t honoured ?

” His beauty was so highly exalted that he thought he should be as God, and Christ must be second to him; but the Lord informed Satan this could not be possible. Christ was His only begotten Son. —Lt157-1910.7

That was the differece between Lucifer and The Son of God. It was not just because Christ was next to God that made him equal with God but the Fact that he was the begotten Son of God . Though after this has been told to Lucifer though he knew it , he started war over this again .

Christ was the only begotten Son of God, and Lucifer, that glorious angel, got up a warfare over the matter, until he had to be thrust down to the earth. He knows what I am saying today. He knows whenever there is a company assembled together as you are here. He knows when we are making efforts in every way possible to reach out to win the minds of the people. He has his agencies appointed so that after this meeting will be over, circumstances will arise and the enemy will try to gain the victory. Ms86-1910.30

Leaving his place in the immediate presence of the Father, Lucifer went forth to diffuse the spirit of discontent among the angels. He worked with mysterious secrecy, and for a time concealed his real purpose under an appearance of reverence for God. He began to insinuate doubts concerning the laws that governed heavenly beings, intimating that though laws might be necessary for the inhabitants of the worlds, angels, being more exalted, needed no such restraint, for their own wisdom was a sufficient guide. They were not beings that could bring dishonor to God; all their thoughts were holy; it was no more possible for them than for God Himself to err. The exaltation of the Son of God as equal with the Father was represented as an injustice to LucifER . PP 37.1

It would be important to note when did Lucifer develop rebellion against The Law of God. It is after the Father had Declared the true position of His son and emphasized that , Only To his son would He open His counsel. That is when the devil , brings another deception to get numbers to follow him . The deception was .” angels needed no Law ,for they were holy ” . Yet still behind this rebellion you can noticed he hid his enmity and Envy against Christ position ahead of him. Lucifer suggested that it is at that Meeting that the Infinite Father had exalted his son . But is that the Case ?

There had been no change in the position or authority of Christ. Lucifer’s envy and misrepresentation and his claims to equality with Christ had made necessary a statement of the true position of the Son of God; but this had been the same from the beginning. Many of the angels were, however, blinded by Lucifer’s deceptions. PP 38.1

It is important we note that , the Position that Christ had , was as the Son of God – the Only begotten . He had his position Next To God . This had been So from the beginning . But trinity suggest that Christ took a position of sonship in his humanity . They claim claim that the Father was Greater that son because he had taken humanity. But this is falsehood . It is clear That Lucifer wanted order of the government to be changed.

“Taking advantage of the loving, loyal trust reposed in him  by the holy beings under his command, he had so artfully instilled into their minds his own distrust and discontent that his agency was not discerned. Lucifer had presented the purposes of God in a false light—misconstruing and distorting them to excite dissent and dissatisfaction. He cunningly drew his hearers on to give utterance to their feelings; then these expressions were repeated by him when it would serve his purpose, as evidence that the angels were not fully in harmony with the government of God. While claiming for himself perfect loyalty to God, he urged that changes in the order and laws of heaven were necessary for the stability of the divine government. Thus while working to excite opposition to the law of God and to instill his own discontent into the minds of the angels under him, he was ostensibly seeking to remove dissatisfaction and to reconcile disaffected angels to the order of heaven. While secretly fomenting discord and rebellion, he with consummate craft caused it to appear as his sole purpose to promote loyalty and to preserve harmony and peace. PP 38.2

He also proposed the Laws of God to be changed but the really issue was The order.  So far we know Lucifer wanted to be next to God but Above to Christ . So The new Order he wanted was ;

God.                                 Lucifer                                           The Son of God  .

Though all this was done in disguise. He pretended to bring angels  harmony  to the Government of God and His order. While pretending that what He was presenting to God was the demands of angels But secretly Continue planting his spirit of discord.

” The spirit of dissatisfaction thus kindled was doing its baleful work. While there was no open outbreak, division of feeling imperceptibly grew up among the angels. There were some who looked with favor upon Lucifer’s insinuations against the government of God. Although they had heretofore been in perfect harmony with the order which God had established, they were now discontented and unhappy because they could not penetrate His unsearchable counsels; they were dissatisfied with His purpose in exalting Christ. These stood ready to second Lucifer’s demand for equal authority with the Son of God. But angels who were loyal and true maintained the wisdom and justice of the divine decree and endeavored to reconcile this disaffected being to the will of God. Christ was the Son of God; He had been one with Him before the angels were called into existence. He had ever stood at the right hand of the Father; His supremacy, so full of blessing to all who came under its benignant control, had not heretofore been questioned. The harmony of heaven had never been interrupted; wherefore should there now be discord? The loyal angels could see only terrible consequences from this dissension, and with earnest entreaty they counseled the disaffected ones to renounce their purpose and prove themselves loyal to God by fidelity to His government. PP 38.3

It is important to note that the holy Royal  angels justified  God’s action of exalting Christ Because Christ was The Son of God.  That means want made Christ Equal with God in nature and Next to God in authority was His sonship. Here again we see evidence of divinity of Christ is rooted in his Sonship.

Isaiah 14 ;12-14 (see EGW comment on Ezekiel 28:13-15). Satan’s Rebellion of Long Standing—The records of some are similar to that of the exalted angel who was given a position next to Jesus Christ in the heavenly courts. Lucifer was enshrouded with glory as the covering cherub. Yet this angel whom God had created, and entrusted with power, became desirous of being as God. He gained the sympathy of some of his associates by suggesting thoughts of criticism regarding the government of God. 4BC 1143.1

” The great Creator assembled the heavenly host, that he might in the presence of all the angels confer special honor upon his Son. The Son was seated on the throne with the Father, and the heavenly throng of holy angels was gathered around them. The Father then made known that it was ordained by himself that Christ, his Son, should be equal with himself; so that wherever was the presence of his Son, it was as his own presence. The word of the Son was to be obeyed as readily as the word of the Father. His Son he had invested with authority to command the heavenly host.—1SP 17.2

Satan was envious and jealous of Jesus Christ. Yet when all the angels bowed to Jesus to acknowledge his supremacy and high authority and rightful rule, Satan bowed with them; but his heart was filled with envy and hatred. Christ had been taken into the special counsel of God in regard to his plans, while Satan was unacquainted with them. 1SP 18.1

” It was the highest sin to rebel against the order and will of God. All heaven seemed in commotion.— 1SG 17.2

The devil’s rebellion in heaven was against the Order of governance. And that is why the rebellion of Korah is associated with his rebellion. Korah rebelled against the Leader Who God had appointed Over him and other Israelites , he coveted the position which God had bestowed upon another and that was the same spirit the devil had in heaven which he seeks to defuse to humanity.

” In the rebellion of Korah is seen the working out, upon a narrower stage, of the same spirit that led to the rebellion of Satan in heaven. It was pride and ambition that prompted Lucifer to complain of the government of God, and to seek the overthrow of the order which had been established in heaven. Since his fall it has been his object to infuse the same spirit of envy and discontent, the same ambition for position and honor, into the minds of men. He thus worked upon the minds of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, to arouse the desire for self-exaltation, and excite envy, distrust, and rebellion. .- { Ellen G.White , Review and Herald November 12, 1903  Par 36)

It is a solemn admonition we need to harken unto that we should hold fast unto the principles of truth which God in his wisdom had given unto us. And one Of them was Godhead : One God , a personal spiritual being . the father of all . One Lord Jesus Christ , the Son of the living God. So far we have established the heavenly Order . We know the being who was next to Christ before fall was Lucifer and Not god the spirit. We need to be aware lest we find ourselves worship this creature.

“All who are determined to hold fast to every feature of our faith should stand against the wiles of the devil. We are all to understand that there is a fallen angel who was once next to Christ in honor among the heavenly host. His work of deception was done in so great secrecy that the angels in less – exalted positions supposed that He was the Ruler of heaven. Satan made the representation that all wrong insinuations existing in heaven originated among the angels, while he himself had made suggestions which would never have been entertained by the angels, had he not created them. He artfully presented these things to God, as having come from the angels, while they all originated with the evil Satan himself. Lt292-1906.1

Here are some statements that I have come across that show how Seventh-Day Adventists viewed the conflict in heaven and understood the positions of the heavenly beings. While you can come to these conclusions from the Bible, it must be noted that much of what they shared would have come from how any clear thinking person would interpret what Ellen White says on this topic.

The Bible gives a few details, but the Spirit revealed so much more to Ellen White on this topic throughout her life. Thus the opinions drawn here by these men would reflect the general Adventist view held and how they viewed the SoP’s statements on this matter.

The Origin of Sin and its Final

Extermination – 0.J. GIBSON

  • The high honors conferred upon Lucifer were not appreciated, FOR THERE WAS ONE, THE SON OF GOD, whose position was more exalted, who had been one with the Father in the work of creation and had shared the Father’s counsels. And this exaltation of the Son he looked at as an injustice, until he ventured to covet the honors of his Maker.

The Shibboleth Of Apostasy – G.B. Thompson

  • I refer to Lucifer, who is now the devil. He was then in heaven. He had been appointed to a high and holy office. His  position was near the throne; he was  its light-bearer and attendant. He was  the third from the head, THE FATHER AND SON ALONE being above him in position. But Lucifer did not like the idea of being the third from the top, he wanted to be first, to be at the top ; and because he was not first was clear evidence to his mind that there was a tyranny set up, and a despot on the throne of universal sovereignty. He pointed to the fact that GOD HAD PLACED HIS SON at the head of affairs in heaven as evidence that something was the matter. He did not believe in anybody’s being at the ” head.” Doubtless he might have viewed things differently, though, had he been placed at the head.

The Great War

* Published again in signs of the Times June 18, 1918 and The Oriental Watchman 1929

  • While Lucifer in heaven occupied a highly exalted station, there were Beings who were far above him. THESE WERE THE FATHER AND SON. The angels  worshiped the Father as Creator of all  things. The Son was coequal with the  Father in creation; and the Father had  said, “Let all the angels of God worship Him.” Hebrews 1: 6. Therefore the  Son also received the worship of the  heavenly host, and the worship of Lucifer with the rest.  The Son of God was supreme over all  the works of creation; for He was “the express image” of the Father’s person, “the brightness of His glory,” and He upheld “all things by the word of His  power.” Hebrews 1: 3. High over all the angels of heaven He reigned, and over the unnumbered intelligences of the other worlds; and His rule was a rule of  love. The angels delighted to serve and  obey Him.

■ The Principle underlying the Tithing System

By A. G. Daniels

The Church Officer’s Gazette – October 1917

  • 1. Lucifer denied God’s right to withhold anything from him. In “The Great Controversy,” page 494, we read: “Coveting the honor which the infinite Father had bestowed upon his Son, this prince of angels aspired to power which it was the prerogative of Christ alone to wield.”

Lucifer stood next to Christ in glory and, power, but he failed to appreciate the great gifts he had received. He coveted the creative power BESTOWED UPON CHRIST, and denied the right of the Father to withhold from him the one great gift.

When Lucifer sought the honor and power bestowed alone upon the Son of  God, he denied God’s right to withhold it from himself.

The Baleful Evil of Criticism – J. E. FULTON

  • He criticised the government of GOD, he criticised the SON OF GOD, and he criticised all the LOYAL ANGELS who upheld GOD AND HIS SON. This spirit of evil speaking spread to others until a very large number of the angelic host were blinded with its damning influence.

■ J.E. White – Past, Present, and Future 1909

  • “He was, next to GOD AND CHRIST; and is still, the wisest being in the universe”

“Lucifer was, NEXT TO THE SON OF GOD, the commander of the hosts of the heavenly angels”

“Christ STOOD ABOVE HIM, EQUAL WITH THE FATHER. Lucifer decided that by his beauty and attainments he was fitted for a position of equality with God”

” But JEHOVAH COULD NOT PERMIT THIS. He Himself had established the order of heaven. NO CREATED BEING could be equal with God, THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON ALONE could occupy this position.”

■ W.W. Prescott – {BEST February 17, 1896, p. 52.12}

Christ was BEGOTTEN, NOT CREATED; Satan was CREATED, NOT BEGOTTEN. As the only begotten Son, Christ could enter fully into the councils of God. Because he could not do this as Christ did, envy sprang up in the heart of Satan, and he began to determine, I will exalt myself. He began to stir up rebellion, to say, God is arbitrary, and he began also to get his sympathisers. “We are in slavery, and I have a better plan of government. Choose me as leader, exalt me, and then I will exalt you.” Do you not see the same principle that has been in the world ever since the fall? You exalt me and I will exalt you,-perhaps.

■ “Whence Came Satan?”

Did God Create the Devil?”

H.M. Kelly – The Canadian Watchman – October 1, 1933

  • The real question involved in this controversy is that of the SONSHIP OF CHRIST. IS HE GOD’S ONLY BEGOTTEN SON? The answer to this question is the answer to every other spiritual and moral question that can possibly arise. The question was FIRST RAISED BY LUCIFER, the first of all the angels. The question involves principles that are eternal and strikes at the root of a fundamental law of heaven.

■ E. J. Waggoner – 1894

Lucifer was the wisest and most beautiful of all the angels. HE WAS WITH GOD MORE THAN ANY OF THE OTHER ANGELS, AND WAS LOVED AND HONOURED NEXT TO CHRIST. God says that he was perfect in his ways from the day that he was created, till iniquity (sin) was found in him. {PTUK February 22, 1894, p. 125.2}

Finally Satan got his followers to believe that they were stronger than GOD AND HIS SON, and could easily overcome them and have the kingdom. Thinking of self he made his heart so ungrateful and cruel that he gathered his followers together and fought against his Creator! “And there was war in heaven,” Jesus and His angels fought against Satan; and Satan fought and his angels. BUT THE ONE WHO COULD CREATE WAS STRONGER THAN THE ONES CREATED, so the angels who had made themselves so evil could not overcome Jesus. And Satan was cast out of heaven and, as lightning, fell to the earth; and his angels were cast out with him. Once more love and harmony was in heaven. Never again came Satan into the beautiful home that he had left; but it was all his own fault. {PTUK February 22, 1894, p. 125.6}

“Who is the devil?” George T. Smisor

  • Since Lucifer stood next to Christ in heaven, he felt that he should be permitted to share in the councils between THE FATHER AND THE SON. He was the highest angel in heaven, and the most wise and beautiful. and surely he ought to be consulted on the plans of creating worlds and suns and creatures. WHY COULD HE NOT BE ON AN EQUALITY WITH CHRIST? But Lucifer had his place to fill in heaven, which was circumscribed by the LAW OF HIS CREATION. Since he was not permitted to share in the secret councils OF FATHER AND SON, he began an insidious attack against the goodness of God and the justice of His law.

Review & Herald – Apostasy and Rebellion in the Church, G.B.T – September 28, 1916

■ It was so with Lucifer. He, too, loved the preeminence. He coveted the highest place in heaven. THE SON OF GOD HAVING BEEN ASSIGNED TO THIS POSITION BY THE FATHER , Lucifer instilled in the minds of the angels the idea that a tyranny had been enthroned, and in order to be free, they must contend for their rights, and OPPOSE THE ORGANIZATION OF HEAVEN.’ Satan would have had no contention about leadership had he been placed at the head.

Why Did God Permit Sin? – BY G. A. HAMILTON

  • Ages ago, before a world swung in space, the FATHER AND THE SON had a mighty counsel about the creation of the universe.

■ Uriah Smith – Looking Unto Jesus p31.1

THE ROOT THE CONTROVERSY IS FOUND IN THE REBELLION AGAINST THE SON OF GOD. This father of lies charged upon the government of God, that it was based in selfishness and oppression; THAT GOD AND CHRIST ACTED ONLY FOR THEIR OWN EXALTATION AND AGGRANDIZEMENT, at the expense of the liberty and happiness of their creatures; and that injustice and partiality, instead of righteousness and truth, were the habitation of their throne.

■ The Devil’s Biography – By R. Leo Odom

Signs of the Times Canada – January 1951

The Archangel over the angels of heaven is Michael, who is Christ. (Jude 9; 1 Thessalonians 4:16.) The cherubim are the angels who attend the Deity on His throne. (2 Kings 19:15; 1 Chronicles 13:6.) Among them upon whom the glory of God shone, Lucifer was “the anointed cherub.” Thus he was the prince of the angels. “I have set thee so,” says the Lord. That is, God Himself had conferred upon this angel the high honour of occupying A POSITION OF THAT WHICH WAS NEXT TO THE SON OF GOD.

Seeing that the SON OF GOD exercised greater authority than he, and that He received the adoration of the beings created by God, Lucifer permitted envy to spring up in his heart against Christ. It is not permitted that worship should be given to the angels. (Revelation 19:10; 22:9.) But Lucifer wished to be a god. “I will be like the Most High,” he said to himself. He said later to Christ: “All these things will I give Thee, if Thou wilt fall down and worship me.” Matthew 4:9.
